Simple Audio Frequency Meter. This tutorial explains how to use the Audio Frequency Meter Library for Arduino and Genuino Zero boards. The code uses a method of the library to measure the frequency of a signal connented to A0 and amplified throug an electronic circuit, in order to get the frequency of a generic input signal. Audio Meter can act as a simple 'dB Meter', 'Frequency Meter', or as an advanced Tool for recording audio levels for later analysis. Audio Meter can also display the frequency domain very accurate. Dewesoft sound level meter solution provides real-time octave filters in order to analyze a signal and output frequency domain data. The Octave Analysis option provides a time-based realtime octave band and 1/3 octave band measurements.

To use UltimaSound

Set up the configuration like the demo below, or you may opt to use an audio cable to connect the line-out port to the line-in port on your PC for a better capturing quality:

Download any of the sample sound files below and use a Media Player or Window's Sound Recorder, which can be found in Windows-> Start->All Programs-> Accessories-> Entertainment group if you use Windows XP, to playback it back while using UltimaSound to capture the spectrogram..

Sound file contains the word 'Hello', which is demonstrated in the video above.

Download Coagula Light to create or import any image and play it back, from your PC's speaker to microphone, and you will capture the image like a fax machine, please refer to the teaser youtube video in the beginning of the page.

Note: Coagula converts image to sound file with Logarithmic Frequency Scaling, thus you will notice distortion in frequency direction unless you check the appropriate option in UltimaSound (see the screen capture below, the left image is produced when Logarithmic Frequency Scaling was on, the right is when Logarithmic Frequency Scaling was off)

Based on your PC's performance, you may need to adjust the height and width of UltimaSound panel to achieve the best proportion for the image.

Do you work in or near a noisy environment, such as a construction site, a popular restaurant, or a concert or sports venue? Ever wonder how loud the noise really is and if it could be damaging your hearing? There’s an app for that!

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), developed the NIOSH Sound Level Meter (SLM) app for iOS devices to help promote better hearing health and prevention efforts. You can download the free app on iTunes.

NIOSH estimates that 22 million workers in the United States are exposed to hazardous noise levels each year. The SLM app can help you prevent permanent hearing loss caused by noise—a problem that can occur immediately or over time.

NIOSH developed the app after its researchers found that most sound meter apps either weren’t accurate enough or lacked features important for occupational noise measurement and monitoring. NIOSH then collaborated with an app developer, EA LAB, to create a new app for use at worksites. Although the app is designed for use at worksites, it also provides accurate noise measurement for everyday use, and can be downloaded and used by anyone in any location, including concerts, movie theaters, sports events, and even school cafeterias.

Using a mobile device’s built-in microphone or an external microphone, the NIOSH SLM app measures occupational noise exposure the way professional measuring instruments do. For example, NIOSH SLM reports the sound level in different weighted decibels, including A-weighted decibels, which can give you a good idea of the level of sound that could harm your hearing. In addition, the app can save and share measurement data. NIOSH recommends using an external, calibrated microphone with any sound level app to increase accuracy.

The NIOSH SLM also includes information on preventing hearing loss, examples of noise levels and their risks to hearing, and a searchable database of devices to protect your hearing.
